Irondale’s 8th Annual National Night Out “Dance Out Crime” National Night Out in Irondale is a Police-Community Partnership event. The event has been held in downtown Irondale for the past 7 years and has grown each year in attendance and volunteers. It features opportunities to learn about drug and crime prevention programs and, most importantly, a chance to get to know the Irondale Policemen. Forming a partnership with the local police is an important step in helping to ensure that Irondale stays one of the most safe, friendly places in the southeast with that true “small town” feel. Kind of like a modern day “Mayberry”.
National Night Out boasts free hot dogs and hamburgers cooked on location by volunteer chefs from Guiding Light Ministries. This year they brought one of the biggest grills I had ever seen! I believe they could have cooked a whole cow on it, maybe two! There are also free drinks, chips and cookies to go with your hot dog or hamburger. The volunteers who hand out the food and drinks are fun loving and friendly. Thanks Brookmont Neighborhood Association! We also pride ourselves in providing quality entertainment through a fantastic live band, Charlie Soul. The music is incredible and infectious! Puts a smile on your face. There is face painting, inflatable fun for the kids, and free handouts. One of the most impressive activities is the chance to look inside an Irondale police cruiser and the Irondale Crime Scene Unit van. The children pushed the siren button a million times, but that’s ok because the smile on their faces was worth it. |

| Most people think of a Policeman in a strict, scary sense. The fact of the matter is the Police are people just like you and I. So come on out next year and get to know them. They walk around at the event and hand out balloons and junior police badges and interact with the children and adults. I guarantee you will have great time! |
