IRONDALE, Alabama -- Shots were fired tonight as Irondale police responded to a home invasion on Cornell Drive, said Irondale Mayor Tommy Joe Alexander.

Alexander provided this account:

Three men, at least one of whom was armed, attempted to break into the house.

Officers responded and shots were fired. It wasn't immediately clear whether the suspects, police, or both fired the shots.

No officers were injured. A suspect taken into custody was also uninjured.

Two other suspects were still at large as of 10 p.m.

Irondale police could be heard on public safety radios calling in additional officers and asking for the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.

A Birmingham police dispatcher told officers to be on the lookout for a burglary suspect who had possibly been shot by Irondale police.

Efforts to reach police were unsuccessful.
