City of Irondale collecting donations for tornado victims

IRONDALE, Alabama --- People who want to make donations to help storm victims through the city may drop items off at the Irondale Senior Citizens Center, Monday through Friday.

Mayor Tommy Joe Alexander said the city is hosting its donation drive at the center, 5313 Beacon Drive.

Items needed are non-perishable foods, bottled water, sports drinks, juice, diapers, pull-up diapers, baby wipes, toothpaste, tooth brushes, flashlights, batteries, tarps, trash bags, chain saw files and store and gas gift cards, Alexander said. Items donated will be taken to Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency officials who will distribute them to people in need, Alexander said.

The center will take donations from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday May 2nd - 13th, 2011
