James Douglas Stewart Jr. has over 24 years of experience in public and personal finances. He is a graduate of Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Business in Accounting. He was employed at the United States Postal Service for 12 years as an accountant before entering into financial ministry. James actively chairs the Finance and Library Committees and assists on the Economic Development, Fire Department, Senior Citizens, Public Relations and Public Works/Utilities Committees. James serves on several boards at the national and state governmental level. He is a member of the National League of Cities Community and Economic Development Committee and the Small Cities Steering Council. He also participates at the state level by serving as a member of their Community and Economic Development Committee. He was also the President of the Irondale Rotary Club, the President of the Irondale Exchange Club, the President of the National Association of Black Investors, the Treasurer for Ruffner Mountain Nature Center, the Financial Secretary of the 100 Black Men, a member of the Irondale Commercial Development Authority, and a member of the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Advisory Committee. |  |
James was a graduate of Leadership Birmingham class of 2010.He has received several public service awards and has attended two of the most prestigious universities in the country to study community and economic development. He was awarded a certificate from the Harvard University Divinity School Summer Leadership Institute for completing their Faith-Based Community Development Program. He also earned a certificate from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Business School for completing their Economic Development Program through the International Council of Shopping Centers. He received a Bronze Award for completing 16 hours of course work in the National League of Cities Achievement Leadership Program. He also completed 40 hours of course work in the Alabama League of Municipalities Certified Municipal Officers program. James is the Pastor at The Lighthouse. As a Christian financial advisor and owner of James Stewart LLC, he uses the Bible as a foundation to teach sound money management principles. He serves as a mentor with the Discovery Clubs of Alabama, which takes the Bible and the Gospel into public schools. He also participates on several non-profit boards. He is the Treasurer for Building Jobs Skills for Americans with Disabilities, a board member for the Evangelical Covenant Church Pension and Benefits Board, a board member for the Exchange Club Family Skill Center. James and his wife, Kimberly, have been married and residents of the Stoneridge community for over 21 years. They have two children, Jade (17) attends Jefferson County International Baccalaureate School, and Christian (11) attends Irondale Middle School. James’ primary goal is to promote and further the interest of his home, the City of Irondale and wants to continue to use his knowledge, skills and expertise to improve the quality of life for the citizens of Irondale.
